From the maker of Black Souls, Eeny Meeny Miny More?, Red Riding Woods is his first project. An RPG Maker VXAce game about a loli Red Riding Hood, kinda. It has Cthulhu monsters and gore.

Story

Hood wakes up, finds her grandma’s gone, and goes to the basement where she finds 4 portal mirrors to other woods to dungeon through. After that, you fight Santa Claus and things get dark really fast. The fourth area is basically just there to set the mood for the rest of the story, and it has scenes of Hood’s grandpa taking advantage of the girl, and the rest of the story is basically dealing with the aftermath of her reaction to that.

Gameplay

Lots of small things in this that would be in Black Souls. Refillable healing items, enemies drop a lot of stat up items, ATB combat system, and upgradable weapons. The only big changes is no karma system, and you learn skills from boss fights. Oh, and you can gain levels like a normal RPG.

Pretty early in the game, you can kill an extra boss for an accessory that gives you 3,000 HP. With that it takes until the final areas before things get threatening again. Most of your taken damage will be from poison until then. Once you reach the final areas though, make sure to have a maxed weapon. There’s only three in the game, and they all are good and basically needed. Sadly no magic ones, so attack spells will always be garbage(unless there is one and I just never found it). Anyway, just like Black Souls, each area is basically just pickup items, dodge enemies and move on until boss. Fight, win and move on. No puzzles, no real NPCs, just dungeon crawling.

H and Other stuff

Same art style as Black Souls, hand drawn picture book style, but only Hood instead of a bunch of girls. It’s mostly monster defeat scenes, with two lover scenes with her wolf and some… stuff with her grandpa. I’m not sure if she’s frigid in this like in Black Souls, as I only read a few scenes and they don’t really focus on her pleasure. As for writing, most scenes are short with the same problem Black Souls had. Using The when pronouns would make way more sense. The body vs her body. The rest of the translation is fine though.

Verdict

Not really worth your time unless you really like Hood when you played Black Souls. It does give you a reason why she has the wolf in that game, but nothing else is really covered. This is basically the epitome of first project, where the creator tried things and then ramped up for the real goal.
