Black Souls 2

H Scene Count- I forgot to count.

Length- 10 hours at least

A sequel to a dark souls inspired RPG using fairy tales stories, but really dark versions. This is a bit more wonderland focused, but otherwise is basically just more of the original. Based off ending D from the first game, apparently.

Story

You want to find Alice. She’s somehwere, but you have no idea where. All the people you talk to either say bad things about her or have no idea. You can  just kill them if you want, though leaving people alive is usually better for more content. Anyway, find Alice, kill things. Only once you beat the game that way will you realize that’s not how you beat it. Beating it requires a bit more… crazy?

Gameplay

It’s mostly the same as the original. You pick a starting bonus, start the game, and die. A lot. The main goal at the start is to raise your stats so that you stand a chance against anything and just keep grinding and finding new stuff until you make progress. For your first run, I will say that is how you should play the entire game. Keep branching out until you can beat a new boss or grind until that happens. Eventually you will get the numbers as every death just gives you an item that raises your stats. That item also lowers your SEN, the most important stat for exploring the world.

SEN is basically how intune with the world you are. High numbers mean you are in the worlds right, which mostly means checking corpses and having sex. Low SEN, mostly from titular Black Souls, lower SEN. At low SEN you can’t talk to NPC’s(if they appear human like at all), some new monsters spawn, and often the music and world art will change. SEN was kind of pointless in the original game, but in this one managing it is very important. Thankfully the rabbit girl in your home base, Node, can be used to increase and decrease SEN without issue. Just kill or abuse her. She will never hate you or punish you, and just revives when you come back. Which is probably for SEN management more then anything.

The biggest changes from the first game are things like no longer being able to summon the girls to fight with you. Instead, they act as accessories you can select as you please. The only time you get allies is when you approach a boss, and the allies are set in stone. Most of them are actually bosses from the first game and can help a lot early on. Eventually they just get one shot though. Another change is invasions, a Dark Souls must. To simulate that feature, there are areas where if you have your humanity(a debuff when you die makes you lose humanity, it’s easy to get back), a boss will spawn and chase you. They all drop unique accessories so they are worth fighting as accessories make up more of your build then your actual level or stats tend to. There are more weapons, more spells, some spells have cooldowns so you can’t spam them, and there’s probably a few more small changes. Generally though if you played the first game, this will feel like starting over more then a whole new game.

I don’t remember if this is a change or not, but using some items does not use up a turn. This is very important as it allows tank builds to exist. Basically, as long as you don’t die you can fully heal every turn which means wars of attrition are possible.

H and Other stuff

Basically the same as the first game. Each girl gets one service, one penetration, one abuse, and one in jail scene. A small number of girls get another scene based on events around them, and that’s it. Do to the Alice obsession the main character has(and the fact he can’t talk but thinks a decent amount during sex), the scenes have a very weird flavor. The girl themselves are also just weird, with odd phrases and generally off mannerisms. It makes for a weird experience. Which is fitting I guess.

Verdict

I enjoyed it, though I do feel I should have not read about the true path right away. Unlike the first game, getting the true path here changes the game a lot and it really begs to be played without guides for the first cycle or two. NG+ is a big part of the game as you work out how to get the real ending(G, which also unlocks the gallery by the way).

Anyway, I liked it. Still weirded out that all the game play tips I saw for this were melee builds. Is there some unwritten law that mages just don’t get played in Souls likes? Honestly, no one I know personally has done anything other then heavy knight in any Souls game. It’s like the idea of casting magic in fantasy land never crosses their minds.

Yeah. It’s a decent RPG for a specific group of people. Worth a try at least, there’s not a lot like this.

Save for Black Souls 2

Contains- Save two has access to all endings, save 1 has the gallery unlocked and I made the world setup to allow as many interactions with the girls as possible. It’s not a setup where you can go everywhere, since you do need to talk to girls for some progress that I decided was better ignoring and letting players see, but most of the land is open and you are strong enough to kill everything.

I guess I should explain my build. I went caster, since I rarely see people do that in Soulslikes. I have three rings that boost all stats by 20-30% I think, a ring that grants an extra action while doubling skill cost, and a staff that makes skills cost 0. So I don’t need MP and get two actions without penalty. That’s basically my build. With some grinding I could take the rings off but I didn’t want to grind that much.

  1. I was in love with the first game but this second one is a major improvement in nearly every aspect.

This series is so deep that most people wouldn’t be able to make much sense of it unless having had prior knowledge of things such as Lewis Carroll’s works (Alice in Wonderland, etc), common fairy tales (Red Ridding Hood, etc), and H. P. Lovecraft. Don’t get me wrong though, not having prior knowledge doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to enjoy this game. I had very little knowledge about the stuff mentioned above. However, whilst playing the game I got very engrossed in getting to learn it.

The replay value is quite good and there’s always something new to discover (and I’m still playing it to this day lol). Can’t wait for the newest DLC to come out in the near future 🙂

  2. Huh, that’s cool. I had the first game downloaded but haven’t tried it yet, seemed creepy at the time and it was night. I guess I should play it first? Did an official publisher (like Kagura) ever picked up?

    • DlSite was the translator, so the dev had them do the official translation. From what I remember, it wasn’t bad, but because of the cryptic nature of the way Dark Souls is, the writing kinda followed that and can be hard to follow.
2’s translation is currently fan though apparently the dev hired someone to do an official one that was suppose to have come out already.

And yes, I would play 1 before two. 1 is easier to understand and has less overall bull in world progression.

      • Ah, I would love if the series get a release on Steam. I rarely pay attention to games not on Steam so it’s only by chance that I even know this series.

      • Don’t see it happening. A game with loli and rape is not something I want on Steam if only to avoid moral guardians and such attacking it. And removing the rape choice defeats a lot of the purpose of the sanity mechanic and the feel of the world.

  3. The second black souls is as lame as the first, except in a much bigger scale. This time there are plenty of new assets and the maps are huge, also there are much more girls for you to rape and get a single boring sex scene out of. But since it is basically the same game as the first, it is still a mediocre game. Using the basic mechanics of rpgmaker this time you are in a land of crazy people mingled with, again, fairytales. Blatantly coping this time bloodborne you will slog through maze like areas fighting non stop spawning lame enemies. And since everything is much more grandeur in this, the amount of time for you progress is also much bigger. It just doesn’t worth the time and grind, and grind you will have to, because, yet again, the numbers of everything is ramped up just to blow you to oblivion. Another example of not skill needed, but sheer bigger numbers.

    • Usually I’m not one to intrude on someone else’s opinion regarding subjects like these. However, things must be said since you’re really doing Black Souls dirty lol

First and foremost, Black Souls 2 is not mediocre (far from it actually). I know everyone has different tastes but you are really under-selling this one. The combat system is nothing innovative but still solid. Black Souls is not easy so grinding is required to overcome certain enemies and bosses. But you can hardly consider it tedious/repetitive, especially if you know the most efficient way to grind (which you can practically hit max level in about an hour or two). The sex scenes are not the core focus of the game and can only be enjoyed by those who appreciate its unique art style or have good imagination. Black Souls may be an eroge but its core focus is on story, lore, and characters (which you did not seem to make any mention of). Calling this game (and even the first one) “lame“ is really discrediting an overall, objectively great game. It may take heavy inspiration from Fromsoftware’s games but by no means is it a complete rip-off of them. It takes various aspects from many dark fantasy type stories/games and amalgamates it into something unique an original. Speaking of which, similar to Fromsoftware’s way of handling things, this game will not spoonfeed you story/lore. You’ll have to dig deep, deciphering dialogue by NPCs, reading descriptions of items, and even researching outside of the game (like Lewis Carroll and HP Lovecraft lore). Black Souls 2 has several different endings that are all completely different with strict requirements to get some of them (which really isn’t a bad thing since it adds to replayability). My personal favorite things about this game (besides the story/lore) are the character/monster designs and most importantly, the BGMs. There isn’t a single bad BGM in it, in my opinion.

So for any new people reading any of our comments, if you want a simple eroge just for a quick nut then this isn’t for you. However, if you want a dark fantasy, story driven, complex game then I recommend giving it a try.

      • Gear and buffing is incredibly important, the game is beatable on SL 1 with max difficulty enabled from start to dlc

  4. Recently I started this game and playe mage build. I went for a glass cannon and had lots of fun. It’s either one shot the enemies or getting one shot though.
