Daibanchou is one of my favorite h-games to be translated yet. The second Alice-soft title to be translated, it came out a few years ago and was immediately compared to the other translated Alice-Soft title, Sengoku Rance. The two were easy to compare as they both share the same general goal, take over Japan. They even share similar gameplay, which I’ll get into a bit. WARNING: this will be long due to how complex this games gameplay is.
Story
Daibanchou is a story set in a mutated Japan. A phenomenon known as the hell hole appeared in the middle of Japan and from it a strange sort of energy was emitted. This energy gave teenagers, and only teenagers, strange powers. People with strong powers came to take over their schools and came to be known as Banchous(school gang leader when translated literally, but banchou is easier to remember). Our story starts with a man talking to wolf in the rain outside one school controlled by a rather twisted banchou. Rouga transfers in and claims his goal is to take over the country. Fighting ensues and you are quickly kicked into gameplay.
Rouga is a pretty good shounen style protag. He’s hot blooded, serious and loves women. While he is not as strong of a character as Rance from the Rance series, Rouga has more personality then most Vn lead.
Gameplay
The game plays in phases. Event, talk, position, battle, defense, end. Add prison to the start once you get out of the 1st chapter and that is how the game flows. The game has 3 chapters: School, district, and then national with each introducing new mechanics and groups to fight.
The combat is team vs team. You chose who you want to fight from your up to 6 person team and they attack, then you choose again up to the # of the biggest team. Battles basically become something like a rock-paper-scissor event where short range beats long, medium beats short, and long beats medium. Add in some character specific skills and the battles can be a bit of fun. Oh and perma death is a thing.
The last thing to mention is character clearing. This is where you do character events to get them stat ups and learn their stories. Each character that can be cleared has 5 stars which you must get all of to clear them. Once cleared they will be stronger on your next new game and be available for the highest difficulty which is a free for all using end game stats and cleared characters only.
There are a number of other mechanics, but to many to go into without making this way to long.
So with all of that, is the game actually good? Most will say yes. While complex for someone starting out, most of the mechanics once figured are simple to deal with and you can enjoy the story and the game. The actual plot of the game is not the main appeal, but instead the characters stories which carry the plot until near the end where a real antagonist comes in, but the plot does have a decent end to an over-the-top and exciting game. The epilogue even shows what happened to each character that survived, with their individual epilogue changing based on how far you went with their clear events.
The gameplay is challenging at the start, but becomes a bit too easy once you figure it out. Everything just kind of falls into place. The hardest part is figuring out how to clear all the characters, but there are places to look to find them out easily enough.
H scenes and other things
The sex scenes are nothing spectacular. Voiced, single picture(no variations or changes) scenes, that are good, but nothing special. They range from vanilla normal stuff, rape, gangrape, gangbang, tentacle, and a few others so their is variety, just not of an impressive quality. It’s good, just slightly above average. On hard mode the game gains about 15~ more rape scenes(these are the only unvoiced scenes in the game), but on a playthrough on normal you should normally only see about 5-8 at most.
The most unique part is the heroines special system, which works quite well at making the girls feel like they love Rouga more as you go. During the game every 4 or so turns you can sleep with one of the six heroines and get a bonus, either money, full heal, stamina for combat, or some loyalty from your entire army. These scenes start out short, but as you do more and more they gain more parts to the scenes(going from blowjob+missionary to those plus cunnilingus), and each part of the scene has four different dialogues to go with them. This makes replay numbers strange, as there are actually far more then 115 scenes, just that is the number of pictures you can replay straight from the gallery. If you go to the final h cg of any of the heroines you can replay any version of any of that heroines scenes. The replay gallery also lets you rewatch story important scenes and heroine epilogues whenever you want.
So should you play this game? Yes. It is one of the better games that have porn in them, and is probably one of the best ones to introduce people to porn rpgs with. It has solid gameplay, decent story, and not nearly as much rape as other Alice-soft titles. Even without the porn it is a solid title.
So what is in the save? All cgs+scenes(they are essentially the same thing), both extra difficulties unlocked(hard mode+chaos mode selectable from the first turn in game), and all characters cleared.
