Castle Fantasia: The Sacred War Renewel

Castle Fantasia ~Seima Taisen~H-Scene Count- 10

Created by Studio e.go!, translated by BTAxis

Length- 10-15 hours

Story

The second installment of the Castle Fantasia by Studio e.go!(and just like Men at Work 2, we never got the first.) In this game you play as Hewie, a military general as a war between the holy empire and the evil god’s forces(humans) is starting.Without spoiling things, this game covers a war that goes back and forth a lot. The winner will not be obvious till near the end. You play as Hewie, a lazy and carefree general of a small force that builds up as the game goes. The main theme is class conflict and the different sides of a war.

Hewie is a character like you would find in a Key game. He makes fun of others and does not seem to take things that seriously until he needs to. I actually laughed a few times to the stupid things he and his team get up to. The plot is mostly fun and dips into darker things from time to time.

Gameplay

The game plays similar to a bare bones Final Fantasy Tactics. Every character has a range of one, and they all have a limit bar that when full lets them do a stronger attack(and eventually turns into an ultimate). You can decide which way to face after a turn, which doesn’t seem to change much. A few characters get spells which makes them by far more unique then the others, but they can only cast if they don’t move. You also cannot move after attacking. It’s a basic turn based SRPG.

The game plays in ally then enemy turn, where in your turn you can move all your troops and attack if in range. Compared to Pretty Soldier Wars, the game feels a lot more friendly. You can see enemy and character stats by moving over them, and exp is easy to see.You hit most of the time(same with the enemies) and it plays well. My biggest complaint would be the difficulty. After the first fight and one near the end, its to easy. I rarely had anyone fall in battle, and even though you fight well above your numbers the enemy never seems able to match you.

The game has two “routes”(Island and Evil Capital) which have small differences based on the heroine(of which there are 8) you are pursuing. The route splits fairly late on and is based on a single choice, but are fairly different in content. Each female who joins your party has a “route” but you need to be on the right ending path to actually get that girls events and ending or else you get the no body liked you enough girl for that path. Luckily, you can skip any battles you have beaten before, making replays much faster.

H scenes and other things

The h scenes are slightly better then Men At Work 2’s, so they are alright but not what I would call good. This is a rerelease of the original game so I have no complaints on the art(its not great, but I don’t dislike it), but the writing/length and some of the voices bothered me, and I  don’t really like MC’s having a voice during sex scenes. They tend to just sound weird.

All scenes are vanilla one on one love ones. There is an instance where a heroine is about to be raped, but is stopped and not in the gallery.

This is a basic SRPG with what I would call a good plot with some entertaining characters. I would say play it, but not the entire thing. Go through both of the ending paths once at least, but don’t bother finishing all the endings unless you love the game. Most of the Island path routes barely differ at all except changing a fight enough to have you redo it, and having the h scene/ending. The Evil Capital path routes do differ enough to be considered, but still are not good enough to replay the game a third time and have to do more fights that are barely changed and are to easy. By the third playthrough the basic combat system will probably feel stale. Not to mention the skip system is really slow and stops at every scene change.

By the way, if you plan on playing this, look for the bug fix patch first. The game crashes a lot on 64 bit operating systems(like Men At Work 2) but unlike the other Studio e.go! game actually had someone fix them. It helps a lot to not have to redo the same h scene 12 times because the game keeps breaking.

Save contains all cg, scenes.

  1. I think the game searches for different file to determine if a battle is skipoable cause it’s not working for me unfortunately

    • I guess that would be possible? Sadly I don’t have anything of the files since I’ve moved computers several times since I played this so I can’t really test anything. I’ll fix the description, sorry.

      • No worries it’s all good, and props for being this attentive to detail on such an old post!
