RPG Maker MV corruption game with a steam punk-ish setting. You play as a tomboy detective solving simple cases, trying to become famous.

Story

You start the game in a detective office, where a cop runs in yelling for some big name detective. You are the detective’s daughter, and your dad is currently out ruin exploring for 6 months, just left. Seeing this as your chance to become a famous detective, you go out to the solve the case. You get permission from the chief, as the cops are stumped in a poison homicide case. Settling the case in minutes, Sophie gets paid and insists she gets the credit for the arrest. She goes and ends up making connections with a gang, who are trying to take back the slums from a more evil gang. Well, this and that happen and Sophie gets paid again.

The Gang, the Black Dogs, are one of the two major plotlines of the game. They have as much depth as I described above. The other major plot is the Cops, which is the usual phantom thief vs detective story, and as usual the thief isn’t just a villain doing it for money. Most of the game though is just doing random cases, making a name for Sophie and helping people out as a detective. Which is good, only having major plotlines would make her rise as a detective feel weak, she needs to do a lot of cases to make it work. Anyway, I don’t think the writing is good enough for what it wants to be, but the formula is good.

Gameplay

Clymenia usually make battles something you can easily avoid, making most of the game more of either a resource management thing or about simple puzzle solving, and this is no different. The game has two main questlines, the cops and the gang. These are sides you have to pick, but also are good examples of the main gameplay styles. Cops, and most of the sidequests, are about simple puzzles and using your detective skills to help people. So fetch quests and such. The gang side is about fighting.

When you encounter an enemy you are given a few options. If you approach them from behind you can get an instant kill via the espionage skill. Otherwise you are given four options. You can fight them normally, try to talk them out of it using the eloquence skill, seduce them with the allure skill, or punch them with your jet powered glove for a first attack/ instant win. Each of these gives you the money and xp from winning, so you can avoid the non boss enemies as much as you want. As for actually fighting, you only get a few options. Normal attack, jet fist/stronger attack, some buffs, and first aid which is based on your medicine skill. So each fight is a damage race and play out pretty simply and quickly.

The main gimmick to Detective Girl is the skills. I mentioned a number of them above, but I’ll go into all of them here. There is a total of 6 skills. Lockpick, Observation, Eloquence, Espionage, Medicine, and Allure. Each skill has three levels that cost 1,3, and 5 points at their respective tutors, except Allure which levels as you do the brothel’s content. A good number of them only have the above battle uses, but a few are used in the Detective side of the game. Allure and Eloquence can be used to barter or get info in some quests. Lockpicking opens chests and some doors. Observation does something related to objects. Espionage helps with any ground based with you need to avoid, like traps. You also have three tools. A Wire Gun for climbing buildings, a Steam Fist to punch people, and Night-vision Goggles which are mostly used to help you see in the sewers. The tools are mostly used in the slums to get chests and fight during the Gang side of the game. Each tool can be leveled using materials you find in the slum, so the ranks of the tools are kind of soft locked to how far you are in the Gang quest. So in total you have 9 things to level to be the best detective. Leveling skills requires detective points, which you get from completing quests. A decent number of quests only open if you are doing a lewd/sex run, so you do get a lot more content that way.

So basically run around pretend steam-punk London, do basic quests and beat up hoodlums. The corruption mechanics are the usual for the genre, once you hit the first point benchmark you’ll get scene after scene.

H and Other stuff

The usual corruption things, but this time on a corssdressing(kinda?) tomboy. She claims she’s a Detective Girl to basically everyone she meets, so even if you can say she’s crossdressing she tells most people she’s a girl immediately. Anyway, the game likes to bring up how much shame her dad would feel if he know how easily she was giving out sexual favors and such. As for the acts, nothing to out there. There is some fun ones, like a mystery box that ends up being the guys dick that you are getting off or an anal sex slave cult as part of a police investigation. The acts are standard, but the circumstances are fun. Scene lengths are mostly short with a few medium ones.

Lowering your good girl stat is easy, since you can masturbate at the office to get it as low as you need. Once it’s low enough you get an avalanche of scenes, and a lot of them count as cases so you get rewards for doing them. As usual, Clymenia focuses less on the forceful side of corruption and more on the weird and entertaining side.

The most interesting thing about this game is some sex scenes give you an accessory, usually called “Memory of…”. These are the only accessories in the game, and they change what the heroine says when she masturbates. It’s an interesting way to see how she felt when something happened to her. They also incentivize playing the game instead of getting to the unlock everything button, as that doesn’t give you all the memory items. Sadly there aren’t really that many of them.

Tip, if you want to get the sex scenes without cheating or using the unlock button, get the allure skill immediately. A lot of the early sidequests that don’t tag themselves as having sexual content do have sexual endings, but only if you have high enough allure/low reason. So before you do anything, go lose to the gangsters or masturbate and then go train in the brothel. Or you can NG+.

Verdict

While I like the look and setting of the game, it kind of bored me. The quirkiness of some of the content helped, but essentially it was just fetch quests and empty combat. The h scenes didn’t really have the length to be the focus either, though I guess the number of them could be a good reason to play this. It’s not bad, but Liz and her tower is better as a game to me. Detective games need good writing or some major mystery to solve and this just doesn’t have that. The game never asks you to solve anything actually difficult, instead using the detective setting for minigames. The only time when my intelligence was tested, I won through picking the sex option and I still don’t get how Sohpie figured out the answer to that. Anyway, okay at best.

Save for Detective Girl

Contains- All scenes unlocked, and all the memory items in the inventory for the different masturbation scenes(these aren’t in the gallery room, go out and go to the bed to see them.) NG+ ready if you want to play that.
