To my surprise I found that the first game in the bust enlarging mystery dungeon series had been fan translated. I decided to see how different Life was by playing what started the whole thing, and it was okay. Life is definitely the better game, but they are very similar. If you liked Life and want more of the silly tit focused mystery dungeons stuff this will be a fine game for you. If you just like mystery dungeons it will be fine, nothing great.
Unlike normal reviews, I’m just going cover the story and then list what the gameplay differences from Life this game has. Then I’ll cover my thoughts on the lewd and be done.
So the holy grail is at this school, but the way to it is only open during the school’s founding festival. On this day, Aina drags her friend Nako to the cave where the grail resides. They enter and are separated. Aina soon finds a fairy and learns about omega power, energy that collects in her bosoms that make them bigger, which is her wish for the grail. She wants big tits like Nako. Anyway the fairy and Aina leave the dungeon and begin spelunking to find Nako in this magic cave. They are joined by Saeri, Aina’s underclassmen. They meet a few other people who are looking for the grail and friendship happens. Aina learns that her current size is fine, and evil is defeated.
There’s not much to the plot in this one, not that Life had much either. This game has way less character moments then Life did, so not only is the story shorter the girls themselves don’t really get fleshed out. Hell, Aina is really the only girl who interacts with every cast member. Nako and Saeri barely talk to the student council pair. The most character development happens in the individual girls dungeons, where they only talk to the fairy with the worst translated dialogue in the game. Like if not for how stock phrasy the whole thing was I would have no idea what was being said based on the written dialogue. Run on sentences, switched speakers, and just nonsense. Rest of the game is fine, but the girl dungeons make up a significant amount of the text and are the only point where you learn about the characters and you just can’t.
Differences from Life-
- You can’t create passives to put on your gear. You are stuck with what you find for that category.
- The permanent strengthening system uses both currency and consumable items. To get the climax like things like in Life, you also need a character specific item and use that during the intense part of the skill raising.
- Max cup is not Z. So no super z move, and no resetting your size to get skills and hp back.
- You can’t swap characters, so the second party member is just there. Which means you really only need to raise 1 person to get to the end of the game if not for-
- Instead of hot springs, there are cgs from traps. Different ones for each girl. You need to find a trap once per character per breast change, so 20 times to unlock all of those. There’s normal, first enlargement, final enlargement, and A cup. Either trap or bra ability to get that last one.
- No hub or sidequests. Just a menu for the shop like services. Which also means way less character to character moments.
- No bags. 30 items is all you get.
- The game is way shorter or more like, more compact.
- Which leads to money being way lower in general, but everything costs the same. Endgame is way more about grinding money then in Life.
- Don’t remember if this is a change, but passive skills come from the third/fourth tier skills, which only start showing up at the end of the character unique dungeons(that are required in this one) and post game. These are right before the final boss, so what makes the characters actually unique only shows up after their forced uses.
- Because of the change to how gaining permanent boosts work, you have to play the post game dungeons as that’s where the final candle type is.
- No shop in dungeons. Instead there is the Holy Fountain, a spot you throw items to get omega power based on item rarity. It will also sometimes spit another item out when you use it, or a monster of a random rarity/level. It can end runs.
Some things about the eroticness-
All cgs are intractable aka you can tap there bodies and they react by springing and wiggling. All cg are also minigames just like in Life.
The change to traps over hot spring means about the cgs from that are just bland or weird. Aina’s is pitfall trap, so she falls down a hole like Alice would. It’s cute at least. Nako is a falling trap, so she looks like a clumsy girl. More cute then erotic. Saerie is equipment removal, so her clothes are disheveled. These are probably the most erotic of all the trap shots, helped by her being my favorite physically(shortstack). Mitsuki is slow feet, so her cg is her walking through mud which is a fetish I never thought existed and this might be the only time I will ever think of it. Miera’s is a shock trap. So she stands there surrounded by electricity and nothing else. Which is barely different from one of her skill upgrades where she just stands in a field in dusk.
Actually, the skill cgs need to be mentioned. Unlike Life, where the girls cosplayed about and the images where fairly creative and very different, these are just the girls doing something in the school. It’s very limited in clothes and actual actions and while there are some winners, they are boring compared to Life’s set.
The rescue images are the best ones by far, but there’s only five of them. Overall in game the art looked better then Life’s, but actually comparing side to side Life’s looks better. It’s probably that Life’s images look better at a stand still then the original games+ me just liking Life’s girls more.
Save has all artwork/minigames unlocked, a full item list and bestiary, and all story scenes ready to be viewed. I did not complete the dungeon bonuses for one dungeon because 1. It’s a random chance that takes 3-4 hours and 2. Other then the gold medal, getting it does nothing. No even an achievement.
Gameplay: 6/10 Eroticness: 6/10 Story: 4/10
What it took-
A lot more time then I expected… A lot of money grinding was involved. Once I did that though, and found the Japanese wiki to help with the final challenge and some weapon locations it was actually easier then Life to 100%.
Some tips for if you want to complete this, the best way to get money is the pig enemies. They show up pretty commonly on the first 20 floors of the first 99 floor dungeon . You can also get small candles of each color so you can get some stats, and if you really want medium you can keep going for a few more floors before leaving. It took me 2 hours to get 2000 omega power fighting from floor 20-50, but only 1 to get from 0 to 4000 from floor 1-20 fighting pigs.
