Length- 5-7 hours
A very janky mix mash of Norse, Christian, and Cthulhu stuff. Janky is a word I want to use a lot for this. Metroidvania. It’s impressive in scope but there’s a lot of features that are off or don’t work right.
Story
Church is going through and purging villages in the rural areas. Our hero, Korvald, is going home to his wife when the church’s army arrives. Korvald is a scribe and the church has been burning books and records of their march, plus Korvald has a magic ring he thinks they are after. he swallows the ring and it won’t be mentioned again until near the end of the game.
Korvald gets captured and his village annihilated. During his torture a Cthulhu spirit talks to him and they agree to fuse. Something goes wrong and they become soul fused. Part of the fusion promise was writing a record of what happens, so Korvald grabs the big book on the ground that also won’t matter until the end of the game.
They escape and basically go on a revenge spree turned into stopping an Elder God from invading Earth. With lots of sex and like 3 different girls giving birth to new possessed Korvald’s kids. Oh, and Odin shows up.
It’s a mess of tragedy and awesome moments kind of thing.
Gameplay
It’s a 2d metriodvania with a focus on melee combat. You get Castlevania esque special attacks, one via your equipped magic rune and another based on your off hand weapon and another based on your chosen ally, all with different gauges on screen. Using these is usually how you plow through bosses.
Hit detection is off, dodging was pretty hard to do but healing was easy and I never ran out of items and the have sex with your current companion for health thing was honestly way to easy to fill, most enemies will get offed easily enough either through your attacks or your 3 companions. You get an ally, which is the story NPCs you can recruit. You get an addicted enemy who you sexed and now just follows you around. Finally there is the Cthulhu companion guy who’s just always there. Against normal enemies they did more damage then I ever did.
Movement upgrades are boss rewards. Triple jump, ground slam, break walls, and a few others. The final dungeon is behind a spike floor you have to revive from dying to to make the jump which is one of the last upgrades, which was an odd obstacle.
There’s crafting, 3 different tables. Food crafting I never dound a use for but takes real time, alcohol crafting for healing items, and equipment crafting that takes money. I basically only used things I bought or found, the crafting system felt annoying to use and the recipe lists basically stopped working after I filled the first page.
Gold was easy to farm. The tavern that is your home base has a women with easy kill and item quests, but once you finish them once you can retake the quest and the complete conditions were still reached, so once you left the tavern you’d get the gold and mission complete. Repeat.
It’s honestly feels like a dream game with goals to high to reach for the staff size working on it, where fixing stuff would have either lost it’s charm or taken far to long. The game looks janky, so of course the systems are to.
H and Other stuff
Most of the scenes are with fully figured women, with masculine or masked faces. Usually vaginal though some foreplay and anal are mixed in. You also sleep with a dragon with boobs. Not a dragon girl, a dragon. One girl is missing her midsection. One of the enemies is a homunculus flesh golem who’s top half skin falls off. There’s body horror. There’s weird choices.
Dying gets you an option to respawn or get sent to another Cthulhu girl who revives with her vagina, which grows teeth halfway through.
The animation is janky, it does works though when the girl isn’t one of the odder choices. English voice acting, though definitely not English accents.
Enemy scenes are just animations, story scenes tend to have voice acting and are loops you progress through. Each line of dialogue is the next bit and the scenes loops when you finish it. All scenes are basically just 1 sex act.
Verdict
I enjoyed how off the game felt. The story was decent, if fast. Like 2 girls birth kids they got into them in the game’s narrative, but the game only takes place over a few days at best. Mixing religions was also odd and honestly little was done with with it after the archbishop is taken care of and the elder god stuff took over.
Sex was weird. Combat mostly worked. I can’t imagine this being fun at high difficulties because of tech issues but it’s a decent romp on lower ones. It sequel baits hard at the end so I expect more of Korvald eventually and I’d play it.
Save for Book of Korvald
Contains- Full gallery. I didn’t go and collect everything and do everything since I wasn’t sure if everything worked. Once I beat the game and unlocked all the gallery I was done.
