Welp, this is as finished as it’s going to get. I’m not going to do my usual post style with Edens Zero, I’ll just list good and bad things about the game and a few facts. I want this to be short and simple.
So overall info. Edens Zero is 3D beat’em/dressup sim game of Edens Zero that covers the first 100 chapters(why is chapter 98 start with with a set of colored bikini shots?) of the manga or the first 24 episodes of the anime but in the most base level possible. It also spoils a big reveal about the main female character in the first 10 minutes of the game, making me have no idea why you’d play this other then to play an Edens Zero game, in which case an original story probably would have been better.
Other thing, the save is missing 15 outfit pieces. I think 10 of those are dlc? Not sure, but as far as I can tell these just aren’t in the game. I have no idea where to look and no one seems to care about them, so missing these is finished I guess.
-Good Things-
-The collectible cards you can get that are basically cgs look great, while only about 7 of them are lewd I liked unlocking these.
-The amount of dressup parts is impressive, and cover basically every outfit I saw skimming through the source material. That plus no shirt shadow and copious jiggle helps a lot with the fanservice. Sexual and not.
– Flying through Blue Garden, the main hub area you spend a majority of the game in, is fun. Not many anime games give you proper flight.
-Lots of NPC variety. I honestly think this engine is perfect for almost any anime game and I hope it’s not scrapped and is actually reused for stuff. The visuals are perfect for anime.
-Bad Things-
-Enemies are far to bullet sponegey, to the point I used the second male dude who summons turrets the entire game. He does outright more damage then everyone else. For how much equipment the game has, you just want as much attack as possible to win fights faster. Hermit might be able to compete in damage, but her playstyle is just not for me.
-The game has to skip a lot of story bits to tell the overall plot, mostly skipping fanservice scenes and setup. Like Mosco isn’t introduced during the arc he shows up in the manga, he just joins the party at the end of the story chapter like he’s always been there. It’s weird. Some things that get skipped are done in side content, so almost every story beat is covered at least.
-The game starts with what feels like a promo video that ends by spoiling Rebecca’s power. This is never dealt with in the game’s actual story, basically pretending the intro never happened and the actual start is after the tutorial.
-Shiki, the male lead, is always in the party. This makes some sense in Blue Garden, as he’s the only one who can fly, but in replays of story chapters he’s still locked. This lead to half my party being the 2 guys you have until postgame and they were basically always on screen. I tried to run around with the girls when I could, but the guys where just better/more convenient.
-Shiki is a boring MC. Edens Zero cover some pretty dark stuff, but Shiki makes the story silly for a lot of it. I’m not a huge fan. He apparently does grow up later as his relationship with Rebecca advances but this early he’s just annoying. So all the side extra content is just more of his childish content, making it tedious.
-You have a 4 character group, but only your active does anything.
-Not a negative, but all of the quests on Blue Garden for content make the place feel like the most dangerous place ever, even though it’s suppose to be pretty safe in canon.
Overall it had promise but it really struggles to keep people around for the gameplay. The dressup stuff is really the main motivator to keep going. I also don’t think this is a good way to get into Edens Zero, the manga or anime are better entry points.
Gameplay: 4/10 Eroticness: 6/10 Story: 4/10
Save for Edens Zero
Contains- All outfits pieces other then the missing 15, all items, fully bestiary, all game modes and difficulties of remaining content unlocked. A few saves exist in the middle of the game, and the final save is in front of the new enemy to fill the bestiary for the achievement.
