The first game in the what is called the Beat series from Alicesoft, this is the predecessor of Beat Blade Haruka. Instead of ninjas, we have I guess Ultraman esque aliens with a transforming superherione powered via her wild emotions that concern sex.

Story

One day, the Dai-Lust aliens attack but Escalayer showed up and stopped them. The next day Kyohei, our point of view guy, is near another attack and notices his recently returned from overseas childhood friend dash off. He finds her masturbating. Once she’s done she becomes Escaslayer. Some fighting happens and it turns out Escalayer used up all her power defeating the enemy of that day. Not to worry, she can be repowered. She just needs really arousing or embarrassing sex to do it. Because the generator for her power is unfinished and  and such. Kyohei is perfect for this role, as he is a pervert and Sayuka, Esalayer’s real name, has something of a crush on her childhood friend.

Then a month of fighting happens and your ending plays out. Really beyond some enemy stuff no real story happens, its mostly bonding moments that that are short lived depending on which route you take. Just like Haruka you can take a brutal approach where you treat Sayuka like crap or take the kind romantic approach(Kyohei is really bad at anything romantic so it never feels like romance. Ever.) Both are believable paths because Kyohei is an asshole. There’s also two side heroines. The milf next door, or the robot maid for Sayuka. Robo maid is the best route as its the only one that is only vanilla, every other route has sexual torture in it somewhere.

Gameplay

So the game flow is do thing-talk to Sayuka for a bonus-fight-do other thing. Next day. The things you can do are sleep to recover libido(aka dice), community service which raises peace points(0 is gameover. They do nothing else), Search(gives you enemy stats), and of course, have sex. Each scene requires a certain amount of points rolled on the dice that is Kyohei’s libido.(a thing to note, what is rolled is decided when you get the dice. They never change.) Once you reach the threshold for points, scene plays and you get D energy. D-energy is Sayuka’s HP and is used to improve her stats, kinda. See, improving her stats other then HP does not make Sayuka do more damage or take less, they simply stop monster from receiving less or doing more. If there defense is higher then your attack, you do half damage. But no matter how much higher your attack is it does the same damage. It’s an unsatisfying system where being overpowered just means taking 5 damage a turn while you wait for the enemy to die.

As for combat… Haruka was better. Here you punch enemy, they punch you. A few enemies have buffs or gimmicks but just punching does the job. You do have skills and special moves. Each turn you get a random point into one of five chosen skills, both passive and active. Once a skill is filled it won’t get more points and actives can then be used. Meaning points into passives do nothing(they are already doing things after all.), and using your combat skills is a matter of luck. Which is better then the original system Escalayer used, where each skill was a one time use for that run. Here skills are kinda like achievements that you keep between runs. You can equip any skill you’ve ever gotten in a new run giving the game a kind of NG+.

Honestly once you figure it out, the combat is just filler into the sex. It’s more for setting then anything else.

H and Other stuff

So you have love sex(that is not lovey dovey at all), brutal sex, normal stuff, and monster win scenes. There’s tentacles, swapping, ntr, futa, and a bunch of other random things strewn about. Just like Haruka, this a smorgasbord of different porn things. And you have easy access to focus on whatever you want. You can skip all rape with a push of a button and getting more scenes of that variety is as easy as losing a fight. Which is really just tedious, but whatever.

Honestly I liked Haruka’s better, because Narika was more fun then Sayuka, or miss do whatever to me. Sayuka just takes anything Kyohei does. I honestly just feel bad for her. Even the non brutal stuff frequently makes him come off as a jerk. I usually like the none normal protag, but here he’s just often dislikable. I get she gets power by embarrassment and arousal, but it often comes across as just mean spirited more then anything.

Verdict

I liked Haruka more. if Haruka had continue voice on click, I’d say it’s better in every way, but sadly it does not.  It’s not so much that Escalayer is bad, just that it does little well. If you like how mean Kyohei is or like the darker stuff there’s probably more here for you then for me. For a vanilla lover like me, the game just lacks good content.
