So qureate did a trailer for 5 ecchi games for 2024, and this was the first. Which was really convenient for me, I lacked a survivor game for the ecchi genre thing I’m doing this year and then this popped up. Honestly, all 4 shown games were in genres I wasn’t sure if I was going to bother with.
So, this is a zombie focused survivor game with maid focused ecchi. For those who don’t know, survivors are kind of a combination of roguelite, AKF clicker games, and twin stick shooters. Though this is very story heavy for a game in that genre…
Story-5
One day Akiba is taken by zombies, with our lead heroine Nagisa being out handing out flyers for the maid cafe she works at with her coworker. They were able to run, but the coworker gets bit, and our heroine ends up passing out somewhere from injury.
She wakes up with a chibi sized scientist who turns out to be making a vaccine for the zombie virus, which our heroine is at least partially immune to. It also makes her super strong, durable, and generally super soldier like. Our plucky heroine then searches for other survivors to help the chibi make the true vaccine and end the zombies while saving her friends. Who also end up having antibodies.
Why. Does. This. Survivor. Game. Have. So. Much. Reading. For a genre with barely any plot, we get this story focused game. Okay I say story focused, it’s not trying to be original or anything. It has moments that are fun but really, I’m mostly surprised that it’s trying at all to tell a character story in this genre. Hell, most of the unlockables are more character skits(with only 1 out of three per girl having a lewd cg).
I would consider this like reading a magical girl style thing. A bunch of girls with easily rippable clothes and low camera angles save the world with friendship and pluck. It’s not special, but it works. It’s also the first qureate game to have an actual villain that talks to the player, that is not attempted to be made sympathetic. It also ends with a “To Be Continued?” so it might be another series or get dlc for the first time in this company’s history.
Gameplay- 4
It’s a mission to mission style survivor game, with a realistic skin. By that I mean most of the weapons are guns, drones, and bombs. Each of the playable girls have a close-range weapon with a cooldown bar to swing, and a gun that shoots differently. These are the main distinctions between the girls other than their ultimates and passive stat up level thing.
Missions get longer as you go through, with enemies getting tougher the later into a level you get. It starts at 2 minutes, and the final unlockable requires surviving a 30 minute no upgrade level. Each girl has a stat page where you can level up various bits of them. Their gun, their weapon, their uniform(HP and speed) and an accessory you can buy and flip between them. These all require materials to level, which drop in stages or can be bought with the points you get from clearing a level. You can also buy a consumable that gives you a buff for that mission and then get tossed.
So, it’s a very RPG like survivor game. It does have the standard randomized extra weapons and passive stat selections as you level in stages, though I found them kind of bland. Lots of drones and grenades. No combos, though I think some options only show up if you have another one or two. You get more options as you clear story chapters so there is more than what you start with at least, which definitely felt lacking in variety (though half of those new options are just bigger versions of the drones you already had). Enemies could have done with some work, some faster types or some that actually attack rather than just zombie mob with different HP. I guess the maids are different? You have a special bullet you can buy that if shot at a maid zombie will cure them and they will fight with you until they die/you beat the level.
So, the game has two ways to unlock side stories. The easy one is you can find maid headbands in levels, just zoom out the menu radar when you start a level and if you see anything, go pick it up. The other way is to play 9 different stages with each of the 6 playable characters. So, you can play the first 9 stages with each of them, play nine with 1 then switch or however you want to mess around to hit that count. These unlock their personal short stories and a cg for each girl, as well as something for the shop. This is the only real reason to switch up who you play as after finding your favorite. The way the game is designed, where you spend resources to upgrade a specific maid, it actually makes more sense to only play with 1 of them through the entire story.
So overall thoughts? I like the melee attack being a push away and a controlled option. The RPG mechanics are kind of awkward and definitely less than some of the other versions of account progression I’ve seen for these kinds of games. The small starting pool of side weapons led to me figuring out the best ones very quickly and never really switching again beyond trying the single new one that popped up every story chapter. The shorter stages felt nice when I started, but going back to get through them for character unlocks I noticed how underwhelming such short stages felt. Overall, it’s a survivor game, which I find to drag and be kind of boring pretty quickly.
Lewdness-6
Almost every cg that isn’t clothes being ripped has a panty shot. There’s like 7 cgs that are not sexual at all, but most of the game’s cgs are either ripped maid outfit or panty shot in maid outfit. It’s a very maid focused game. Unsuprisngly.
Each character has a join cg, a zombie treatment cg(kind of the massage minigame but with blue bukkake stuff), a sub scene cg, a special move cg, and combat ripped clothes cg. Then a couple of sprinkled through actual story moments, about half of which are panty shots. It’s on the higher end for lewd total content with qureate, not as much as Dual Princess or beat refle, but it’s next up in the list.
Final Thoughts
Solid? It’s like a beginner’s survivor game. Shorter levels and something else other than just straight gameplay to keep the player invested. Of qureate’s lineup, it’s probably one of their better games. It actually requires some skill which most of their lineup just doesn’t, though like Dual Princess it quickly becomes pick best option and almost guarantee a win with just that. They are getting their in game design so close to right, it feels like each game is a step or two away from being out right fun at this point. Do have to wonder if this does get a sequel, if it might finally reach that fabled good game quality they miss every time.
Save for Maid of the Dead
All cgs, so all sub scenes unlocked. The only thing left to do is buy some accessories that you don’t need for anything other than achievements.
Gameplay: 4/10 Eroticness: 6/10 Story: 5/10
Completion:
Beat 9 levels with each girl, beat the 30 minutes survival level (not that hard), have the special character get zombied, have everyone get damaged and use their specials. Done. Minimum clear time is like 10-12 hours.
