Welcome to 2024

2023 is over, and with it a lot of decent releases. Both Mugen Souls finally came out uncensored for the west, Baldr’s Gate let you sleep with a bear, Dungeon Travelers came out on something better then the Vita, a couple of top tier Vn’s like Muramasa and Nukitashi(as butchered as that was), some Ninetails and their subsidiaries stuff, Hentai Labyrinth, and so on.

I even almost hit all my game goals for the year. If I hadn’t dropped Nep 3 I’d be at A+, but I also barely had goals to begin with, which this new year will be the exact opposite, more about that near the end of the post for those who care.

I’m also really disappointed with myself over the sheer amount of started then dropped projects. I tried to play a huge number of games this year and dropped them all within 2 or 3 days. The reasons were numerous, from bad galleries to wanting the game to have more content to just not enjoying it. Then there’s the like 5 times I said I’d start a game only to not even get past the title screen… man this year was bland for motivation. Demon’s Roots was one of a few games that actually impressed me. Basically zero VNs did(Date A Live was the my favorite of the year, of the few I read), and the best games were almost all early things like Fairy Fencer and Dead Estate.

Next year though looks better. Shin Koihime’s fan patch should finally come out, Rance 03 has some chance of release and probably a few other things in the 18+ world that I haven’t been tracking. For ecchi, there’s Tsurugihime, Stella Blade(hard maybe), Konosuba cosplay sim, Infinite Wealth, Dungeon Travelers 1, Shred and Tear, the next Trails entry, and the Yuuna ghost hot springs game. So there is some promise next year, just wish there was more 18+ stuff I was looking forward to.

AI stuff

Expect an AI game or a few this year. I don’t want to hate on AI art games, I think they can speed up things and if used well let people who would otherwise never make games try their hand at it. So far though… We have chuuni garbage with lots of pictures but no substance, galleries with no game, that weird starving ribcage look that looks horrible, parody stuff that uses pre time skip stuff(way to many parody things use pre time skip Naruto…), game’s with terrible design, and no gallery stuff. It’s been a mess, and on top of that a lot of them are just scam single alpha releases meant to get some patreon subscribers and then the makers just never update. I’ve seen like two games worth anything and even those don’t play to the strengths of AI art, it’s just about making things cheaper and affordable which is fine.

As for AI translation, it depends on quality. I’ve likely already read one and barely noticed, but two Mandarin Farm games have been AI translated recently and they are horrible. Likely I feel they are using the AI like you would a machine and going line by line, which is not how you handle AI as you aren’t giving the AI the context it needs to be smarter then Google translate. If you are going to use it that way, at least edit the damn thing.

For next year, instead of just going through sequels or some random set list, I’m going to try to play 1 ecchi thing per game genre that I can. I’ve found myself skipping some genre’s entirely and this has lead to some games that I really should play getting ignored, or a building list of one genre that I really should start working on(looking at you, fighting games). Also, all first games of a genre will likely come with me going on a tangent on the content of that genre, because why not.

So following is a list of what genre’s I could think of and a mix of examples and intended games to be played. Generally new releases are the priority, but we’ll see. This doesn’t mean I won’t be playing 3 turn based RPG or anything, just that I want to push myself to at least get something in every genre I can. Porn games will be ignoring this entirely, though the only 18+ things I have guaranteed in my list for next year right now is a Rance game at some point and probably the rest of the Lock n Lewd set of games. Probably Shin Koihime if it actually comes out?

Genre’s and some maybe’s for what I’ll play in no particular order-

Turn Based RPG- Trails into Daybreak/Nep 3/CCC

Action RPG- Senran Kagura Burst

Strategy RPG- Not sure. There’s options but none are that pervy. Stella Glow, Luminous Arc among others.

Dungeon Crawler- Dungeon Traveler 2-2/ the original maybe or Mary Skelter 3. Demon Gaze 2 if that happens.

Hack and Slash- Bayo/Oneechanbara/Smash a Hit/???

Mystery Dungeon- Yuuna Hotspring

Wrestling- Rumble Roses Japan edition(has English menus and dub)

Racing- ???

Sport- BMX XXX as I don’t want to spend hundreds of hours on DoA Xtreme and that’s about the only other option. You’d think at least volleyball would have a decent number of lewd games, or hell lingerie football or something but no…

FPS- Bright Memories or Michigan Hell Report(Japanese version cause it works and has all content)

TPS- PN 03

Schmup- Otomedious or Like A Dreamer

Puzzle- Magical Girls. Not sure how subdivided puzzle as a genre should be…

Sandbox- Mafia 3 or Sunset Overdrive

Survivor- There’s this witch one and not much else yet

Minigame Collection- Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Platformer- Drifting or Amazing Princess

Fighter- Blazblue 2

Adventure- Death Mark 2 or NG

VN- Phantom Trigger or Blazblue VNs

Dating Sim- Konosuba or this weird stock market one

Igavania- Tsurugihime

Metriodvania- ???

And more. I don’t even know all the game genre’s nowadays and they pop up pretty often. I’m hoping the sheer variety will get me to finish most of this list, but who knows? Anyway, hope to have an alright 2024. Have fun.

[Rant] In a world with body magic or cybernetics, why is anyone not a 8/10 at least?

On vacation, just finished my 6th 60 hour RPG for the year. To lazy to put that out, so this piece I wrote a month ago will do.

This is a topic I’ve stewed over for some time. There are multiple games out there that exist in worlds were body augmentation is an admitted thing. From Dragon Age’s gender flipping to Mass Effect or Cyperpunk’s super tech, anyone with money should have the body they want or the body that is most convenient for them. Yet we stick with making them bland, generic, and not desirable. It’s confusing to me in way.

The kind of curves a magic saleswomen should have.

General Mid Year Update

So with all the game mid year game shows mostly over, and the blogs anniversary about to hit, I figured I’d do a general update post on things and what the rest of the year looks like.

Let’s start with the general announcement side of things from all those game shows. Over 100 games have been announced or shown in the last few weeks, and I care about like 4 of them. Dragon’s Dogma 2 might be good enough to cover here if it keeps the SF6 character creator and has the lingerie slot the original game had. Super Mario RPG is a nostalgia drug for me that I will make time for. And Mugen Souls Z is coming in September. Oh and Cyperpunk’s final update might finally nudge that into being played before the end of the year. Nothing else stood out, at least from the main shows.

Anime Expo had a few nice things, like Mangagamer announcing Ixeal, the third Beat game from AliceSoft. There were a few other decent things to note that I might read, but honestly Vns have been hard to get into this year. I’ve read like half of one in total that wasn’t for the October ecchi VN month thing I’m doing. So yeah a few nice things but not much hype for my kind of gaming from all these game shows. I’ll likely do an opinion thing on the Fable “design” thing and really my feelings on the uglyfication of fictional characters in general later.

Oh, and a Konosuba VN is coming out in English. Those tend to be cosplay focused so might end up here. Tsukihime remake was also officially English announced, not sure how exited I am with that. While I do play FGO I’ve been kind of bleh on the rest of the franchise. I intend to play Samurai Remnant if Musashi gets something other then totally covered up as an outfit.

As for personal plans and projects-

First, Dungeon Travelers 2-2 is a huge game that is dumb long. Easily 80+ to beat and another 40 to 100%. I’m at like the middle dungeon or so just about to get the last recruitable character. It’s… a long ways off. Which throws everything else out of whack, and I’m not sure if I want to keep playing. It’s a slog. I’ve seen people swear the Dungeon Traveler games are great but man, they are just too long. I’m probably going to keep this on the back burner, just plucking away at it as I feel like it.

Senran Kagura Burst is a way more grindy game then the rest of the series, with only grinding online medals in Peach Beach being comparable. Almost done with the first side of the game, though cleanup for that will take who knows how long. It should be done by the end of the year, thankfully I actually enjoy the combat so how grindy it is isn’t further killing my motivation.

As for next up, no idea. Summer sucks for motivation and almost everything people recommend or that I feel I should play are 60+ hour long behemoths. I have 4 hours a day. If I’m lucky.

Ixeal is definitely in my list of things to do, as well as Rewrite Harvest Festa if that actually comes out. Once October comes I intend on finally running through Rance 9 and then we’ll see how much time is left for the month for Dohna Dohna or Demon Roots. I might “play” White Album, aka skip the story and just beat the game so people can skip the gameplay or something as I’ve heard that part of the game is bad. I have a few days of vacation coming up so I’ll likely try to start and finish a game during them, or maybe finally clean up Shanae Half Genie. I actually have like 3 or 4 games that only need like 5-10 hours to finish that I really should just go and do…

Basically, I’m a mess. Dungeon Travelers was a mistake. Things are going up and plans are vaguely existing. Happy day, good week.

Oh, and starting Brown Dust 2 was probably a mistake.

Completionism can suck

Have you ever felt put off by how complex a game is? Skip a title because there’s content that is nigh impossible to get? Lose all interest when the unlock all button is just thrown at you? Know you are skipping a fun title because there’s nothing to actually get?

Being a completionist can suck. Especially when it’s not your job but more of an obsession.

Basically my entire game focus is on completing content and getting rewards for it. A big part of why I gravitated to pervy games was that galleries served as a great motivator to trek onward to getting anything a game has. But as the library of porn games expanded a few issues kept cropping up that has hit my motivation hard.

Sengoku Rance MG Version finally done

This took way longer then it had any right to.

Save

This has both the original and MG versions saves in it. Because why not.

So what is the reason this had to be updated, or more like what is the MG version? When Mangagamer released Sengoku to the west they did 2 things that affected completion in the game. One was cleaning up the Clear Game Report and adding a few things to it, so there was some new achievement style things to do. The second, and really the important one, was adding variant h scenes(basically scenes that reuse cgs) to the gallery. So now Suzume’s shadow clone h scene can be replayed! Thing is the original game didn’t track that stuff, so I had to go and unlock all the new scenes manually. Agireda specifically was a lot more annoying to get and clear then I remembered.

So I can’t say I’m a fan of live service stuff. It’s not even the business model itself that bothers me, it’s having a game I’m done with suddenly not be done. My 100% becoming a 75% or less. I know I play a decent amount of unfinished stuff which is basically the same idea, but even those I tend to stop playing after a bit, maybe going back to them in the distant future. I’ve considered going back to a lot of the unfinished games and updating them, but there’s little motivation for a lot of them. This in particular is a game I love and it took me almost 2 years to finish. I’m glad it’s done though.

Original post for review, go here.

Merry Holidays and Happy Year Reset, into 2023 we go

2022 is just about over, so here’s the report card of the year, actual what was finished and put up at the end of the post. I’m going to point out a few things of interest to me next year, look at the list of what I was suppose to finish(I got like a 70%), and just throw up a completion list with dates of games I did this year. Next week will be operation as usual.

[Ecchi]Mafia II Classic

No cg, sorry.

This might be one of the more what the hell’s I’ve done. A 2k game about mobsters? How is this ecchi you might ask. Well, there’s a few reasons. The biggest is the 50(19 more from dlc, no in game gallery for that though) Playboy images the game has as collectibles throughout the game. Plus pinups and a bit more and I figured why not.

Mafia 1 doesn’t have these to my knowledge, and Definitive Edition sucks. It’s a an almost unnoticeable graphic improvement for more bugs and 5 times the graphics size. Since buying Definitive gives you Classic with all the DLC I just went with Classic for this. I think that explains any big questions.

Now what is Mafia? A GTA set in the past instead of the present. A much more serious take on the open world car theft style.
