Welcome to Pia Carrot is an old classic dating sim from 1996. This is the PC-FX version of the game(there are three others), which includes full voice, simple animations, a few fmv’s, and some short sex scenes. Getting the game to work will require either the very old PCFX or an emulator such as Magic Engine FX or Mednafen.
Story
You play as the son of the owner of Pia Carrot, a family restaurant. Due to losing a deal with his father, the MC must work at Pia Carrot for the entirety of his final summer vacation. Here he works with a few beauties who the player can attempt to match him up with by manipulating stats and interactions with the girls.
The actual story you will see will change depending on who you pursue, but there is not a lot of depth or overly dramatic stuff. This is a very down to earth story.
Gameplay
This is the best example of a classic dating sim. You raise your stats by choosing what you do when, and you interact with girls to see events and raise affection for later. You have to hit certain stats to get the girl at the end. Oh, and to get all the cgs you have to play some characters 3 times, one for each waitress uniform you can pick at the start. There’s not much else to say about this, the game is pretty simple. Just know that without a walkthrough, seeing all the cg scenes for any girl can be a real hassle and getting the right stats for a girl can be a giant mystery. This is my major problem with all dating/raising sims, they feel very random and are a giant pain for completionists without a walkthrough.
H Scenes and other stuff
The h scenes are short and just kinda there. None of the moans have dialogue, guy isn’t in the cgs making the girls look like they are posing instead of having sex, and the scenes themselves end very fast. The game does do a thrust effect where the scene shakes when you are going at it roughly which is a nice touch. Surprisingly, if you complete all the heroines routes you unlock an option to watch confessions of each girl leading into their h scenes. For the time this game came out, this was a very rare feature.
The music for the game is good. This is one of the few games where I noticed the music, and I enjoyed a lot of the character songs. There is basic animations in the face for speaking which are a nice touch. The time passing animations are cute though they wear their welcome fast. I wish the game had a few more fmv’s. If you watch the credits you can see a number of moments from the game in video form, but in the actual game only the opening and an outfit confirmation scene are animated.
Verdict and Save
I don’t care much for dating sims. I really don’t like forced replays for 100% because of silly mechanics(uniform choice). I think this game does a good job with what it does, and its definitely better then Kingdom or Sunrider Academy in how it plays and its flow. I liked the music quite a bit and some moments of the game were nice, but I can’t really call this a great game. For its time it was probably great, and its still one of the best dating sims with h in it. Just wish the h was better.
Save contains an emulator save with everything unlocked, and save stats to any h scenes not in the replay mode +endings for each girl.
