[Ecchi…Not Really]Dead Estate

This is one of those games where one of the characters(Cordelia, or the witch) is a standout fanservicey type. She drew my attention enough to play it eventually. Then the Heaven and Hell update happened, which had some official art that piqued my interest enough to just start it then and there.

So this is a room to room roguelike. Like a 45 degree Isaac, but with a Resident Evil skin instead of disgusting. Lots of references actually…

Story-3

A bunch of people end up at this mansion in the woods filled with zombies and mutants and cultists and monsters. They try to escape. Except for the witch looking one, who knows a bit more and tries to figure out what’s really going on.

Each character gets a short animation that explains why they went to this mansion in the middle of the woods, and the witch Cordelia gets another unique animation that explains the actual story of what’s happening. It’s a story for the sake of having one, really.

Gameplay-7

Each room is a cube you are looking into, with some enemies you kill to progress out of the room. Your goal is to get to the boss or a special elevator to go up to eventually make it to the balcony, which is the 5th floor. Each floor has a special item room, a secondary gun room, a challenge room for another item, a secret room which can drop anything, and a shop. This game is mostly pure roguelike with no way to power up your player characters that is run to run.

The actual run to run goal is the achievements to get permanent unlocks. The biggest one is unlocking the true end route, which opens 5 more floor types and and some more special one room floors to visit. Then you have the actual characters which represent different builds to progress through like Digby’s melee combo system or Mumbo’s speedy but very fragile build. There’s good variety in character looks and playstyles.

After beating the game fully once you also unlock Chunk Medallions as a reward from beating the game, named after the chaser enemy of this game who attacks if you take to long on a floor. These were introduced in the same update as the Angel and the Demon, and are used to buy “curses” for all the characters. These are suppose to be build tradeoffs, like less hp but more damage. Or shopkeeper is free but only on every other floor kind of stuff. They trend to being more helpful then harmful. They can only be bought on looped runs, where you jump off the roof at the end and go through the mansion again but basically on a higher difficulty with some new enemies. There’s not much reason to loop outside of buying curses and like 3 achievements, which felt unfortunate. I imagine future updates will add more reasons to loop.

I find the game overall to be great fun once you get used to it. I started off terribly but once it clicked it was great. Even bad runs were enjoyable. I think it’s a good alternative to Isaac if you can’t stand the gross stuff, or just have played Binding of Isaac to much. It helps that nothing is cryptic, just about everything is spelled out plainly so I didn’t have to run to a wiki to know what I was picking up/what I was trying to do like in some other roguelites and likes I’ve played.

Lewdness- 3

Cordelia is the standout, She is both playable and has a few outfits there, but is also the main shop keep. She gets different poses for her main shop depending on floor, and different outfits based on type of shop for the non main ones. If playing Cordelia, her mom takes the shopkeeper role and while she’s more dressed then her daughter, the mom is still a busty women with some cosplay.

You also have a few different other girls for other types then the curvy beauty that is Cordelia. Boss and Fuji are the muscle types, not something I care for but might be appealing to others. Boss’s outfit is cool though. Lydia and Jules kind of come across as plain compared to the others. None of the guys compare to the Cordelia. Luis at least has the cool older guy thing going for him.

Heaven and Hell, the third update, added two new shops with a busty angel and demon. They don’t pose but the update came with some art that focuses on their assets(not in game though). There’s also the cultist shop, she’s another busty women. She gets different poses based on if you beat the cultist up in that run or not. So there’s plenty of busty women art, though only Cordelia and kind of the cultist are going for pervy at all.

None of the concept art is really lewd, and that’s the entire gallery.

Final Thoughts

It was fun. It has 2 more big updates that I expect to enjoy before setting it down for good, but it was the right kind of enjoyable while also being infuriating at times. Like a good roguelike should be. It had the right blend of achieving goals while also being fun on its own to appeal to me, and Cordelia is a hot black mage styled girl. It was worth my time to play.

Does it belong on this site? Not really. Does it matter? Not really.

Save for Dead Estate version 1.51- An Axe to Grind

All achievements, a very full bank(floor that stores money, only run to run progression other then Chunk Medallions), and enough Medallions to play with. All characters, all costumes. Everything ready for the next update. Even have the save for the previous update(Heaven and Hell) in case you wanted to play only for the new content or lost your save or something.

I didn’t test this, but I doubt they are using account based checks for progress so it should be good.

Gameplay: 7/10 Eroticness: 3/10 Story: 3/10

Completion:

Not hard, just time consuming. The game tells you what to do to get achievements and only reveals ones you can do so it’s not hard to find them all. Some can be time consuming or way to luck dependent but not really hard. Though I am glad I did the highest difficulty before the Axe to Grind update that made Chunks an actual threat, that would have made that run far more miserable.
