The lewdest Type Moon game, probably even more lewd then the ones with actual porn. So lewd it might not even get the remake treatment its prequel is getting.
CCC is a story based on the corrupting power of love and sex is a major theme. It’s mostly through metaphors and a lot of word play, but it’s not vague. It’s constant and in your face. Like some boobs in the protags, 10 minutes into the game. Where he also comments on how awesome the girl’s ass is while suffocating.
Story-7
I’m not sure how spoilery to be here, this game’s been out a long time, but not in English, and Fate Grand Order had an event that spoiled a decent amount of the cast and story. Let’s start with the opening and who you meet? I am assuming you played or read Extra, I’m not going to explain the Moon Cell or Seraph or anything of that here.
So the game starts exactly how Extra starts, with your chosen character walking up to the school in a reference to the original Stay Night. But as soon as you talk to the student at the gate, things diverge quickly. Your character is already remembering things that are apparently not true. You are asked to go lock a door on the first floor and their you find Jinako. A brand new character. Immediately after talking with this neet hikki girl you meet Kiara, a character I was sure wouldn’t be in this so early.
For most people in the west, Fox Tail is probably the closest people have gotten to CCC’s story. From what I read, Kiara isn’t even in that. I knew she was in this, I just didn’t expect her to be in the cast from start to finish. She’s just as weird of a character as I expected. She’s a nun who speaks in a way to give you constant misunderstandings, and has no issue with you groping her right away. Every character other then protag calls her dirty women, and they are right but the protagonist sees her as pure. On the other hand, Jinako has an issue of being described as flabby and just isn’t. She’s stacked, but not more then Kiara or Tamamo so poking at her weight feels weird. Her new appearance in Fate Grand Order makes a lot more sense with how she’s written here.
Moving on from the tangent, after some weirdness and meeting the other important cast members from Extra, things go to hell and you finally meet your servant. You wake in the Far Side of the Moon, a place the Moon Cell doesn’t really use/watch and is not part of the Holy Grail War of Extra’s story. You also have amnesia, only remembering characteristics of people from the previous game and none of the fights.
You are stuck on this side of the moon, but want to escape and go back to the Near Side and finish the Grail War. To do this you team up with some other Masters and go through the Sakura Labyrinth, the only connecting path to the Near Side of the Moon. You soon find other Masters guarding the path, and to unlock the way forward you have uncover their secrets and their fetishes and get deep(not really, that’s the theming though). Only then can you unlock their defenses and move to their center and win.
After dealing with Rin you meet the actual mastermind and main villain of the story, BB. The first alt version of Sakura and the start of Sakura getting more alts then just about anyone else in the series other then maybe blue Saber. By that I mean characters using Sakura’s actual body, not just same face stuff. Anyway, she calls you Senpai and tells you to give up and sends you away, as she finds your attempts to do anything amusing.
BB is actually kind of a fascinating character, but all of that is spoilers about late game stuff and other media, the little she shows up in. So now the goal is set, defeat BB by defeating her guardians and finding a way to fight her, mostly by gathering her guardians fetishes and personality gimmicks and then stripping their minds bare. Then reach the end and get told the end is actually farther away, have fun. A few times.
Story wise, I think Archer is actually the best servant if you only want to play once. I was led to believe Gilgamesh had a bunch of unique content, but he really only has 1 scene early on. Archer’s ending explains the most about the actual world setting of Extra which nothing else bothered doing.
So probably the most interesting thing about CCC is that it doesn’t matter if you consider it canon or not. It happening doesn’t affect Extra at all. It takes place during Extra, but it happening doesn’t change anything. It does add happy endings to Extra.
Gameplay-4
It’s rock-paper-scissors(RPS), kind of. Has a bunch of RPG mechanics under the hood, but for 95% of fights it really just comes down to using what the game gives you and guessing to win at RPS. You can use attack skills to ignore countering, and end game can just be skill spam instead of guessing, but early game is a lot of guessing attacks.
Basically you have 3 actions to fight with. Attack, which beats break. Break, which beats guard. Guard, which counters attacks(though you do take a small amount of damage still). If you win, you get a free hit in. If you get 3 rights in a row, you get a big attack extra thrown in. If you match the opponent, you either both hit each other or nothing happens.
Killing enemies 3x times gives you more “info” aka it reveals more and more of their chosen attacks per turn, in which you select 6 options to counter theirs. You can also opt to use a servant skill, which skips the enemies attack unless they are doing the same, or have the protag do 1 thing. You can throw a single item or use a single spell a turn, with the options of spells going up as you find new gear of which 2 can be equipped and they only affect Master skills and the Master’s one stat, MP. Servants have no gear, just leveling.
Later enemies and boss/servant fights get more interesting, as they can use skills, their own Masters skills, extras, and of course Noble Phantasms(NP) aka ultimates. So you can’t counter every move they make, and you can’t farm them to learn their moves. You can throw yourself at them till you win, writing down their movesets until you can guess enough that you basically own the fight. Every enemy only has so many sets of attack options they can do, it’s not random. This does mean that beating enemies above your level is always possible, though bosses at least HP check you with their NPs. It can take hours though.
So the four servants each play a bit differently-
Saber- strong. Get skills that do different effects on different proper attacks, like stunning on breaking guard. No defense skill, instead gets a revive after death. Her NP is the only attack.
Archer- He needs to build up a stack to use his skills. This leads to spamming the lowest tier in everything that isn’t a boss fight. Can outright ignore an enemy with his defense skill. Has a few debuffs. His NP just makes his skills do more damage.
Gil- I think he’s suppose to have the highest stats? His skills never really came together for me, he was actually the least fun for me to play as. He gets an MP regen which I think is suppose to get him through boss fights but you get it early when it does basically nothing. It barely refunds itself + 1 other skill over 3 turns, by the time it was worth casting I had given up on fighting fairly. His NP ends fights early, instant death at 1/3 HP of the enemy.
Caster- Main skills stun if you hit the right attack type. Her skill set is my favorite one and honestly the best suited to the game’s systems. She can counter most things, gets MP with her defense skill, and can crti with high damage against the two male bosses in the game. Her NP gives her 0 MP cost for the rest of the turn, which means spam her strongest attack.
A quick side to note the biggest Extra versus CCC differences. In Extra, leveling was getting points to put into your servants stats to affect final stats, CCC throws that out for just normal leveling. Which is good, Extra had way to many small secret things like certain skills locked to stat milestones or using items hundreds of times to get a skill. These are cool, but make the game’s guide required in some ways.
CCC lets you leave dungeons and come back with no issue, Extra limits dungeons entries and really progress in general to it’s story structure. You have 6 days to learn about the enemy, aka do that week’s story. Doing this gives you more boss info, making them easier to fight. But if/once you fuck up, the whole progression of that week’s story falls out of sequence making the game harder. CCC, while having a more interesting plot, is also a lot nicer to the player in general.
Lewdness-6
Beyond the game’s overall theme and references, the there are two main sources of lewd content. BB herself, and the whole Secret Garden thing.
BB wears her skirt really high, so even though it should be down to her knees it instead is at her thighs such that if you are a foot shorter then her, her panties are in full view. The game never lets you not know this. Then BB makes her alter egos, Melt and Passion Lip. Melt is just wearing a metal thong and a cape, her flatness and ass are in full display when the cape isn’t blocking her back view. Lip is boobs, she has a strap to cover and nothing else. Surprisingly she is more sensibly endowed here, FGO doubled her already impressive boob size to joke levels. Doesn’t stop the game from bringing up her boobs constantly. I remember the advertising for this game, Melt and Lip got an article and I remember a decent amount of people thinking they were to much but I thought they were great. A bottom focused girl and a top focused one. It fits their actual personalities too. Oh, and Saber gets a V bikini.
The game does have jiggle as well, but only on certain animations and on a few models. It’s the PSP so I’m not surprised. Lip jiggles always, a few costumes on Saber and Caster have them move. BB doesn’t seem to move at all which always looks weird with how over the top her movements are. Kiara jiggles a lot whenever she walks on screen, which is like 3 times in the entire game.
So Secret Garden. It’s the name of the girl’s secrets you gather to beat bosses, but also as you get them you get a cg of that girl naked with flowers covering them, the flowers vanish as you collect more. You also have the PUNISH cgs, where the girl from the secret garden get their outfit back but usually ripped or more sexually posed. Combined each boss has two cgs with the aim of being exposed. Each servant also gets one, and so does Kiara and BB. While I wouldn’t say these are lewder then the actual h cgs from Stay Night or Hollow Ataraxia, I prefer the style here. They also fit the theming of the game better.
I just have to point out that Tamamo/Caster actually has the most cgs in the game. She has 2 in her epilogue, and each other playable servant only has 1.
Final Thoughts
Glad I played this. Hated finishing it. How many games do this Neptunia style full runs to finish the gallery nonsense… this is like the 5th one? It doesn’t matter how good the first run of a game is if you have to redo it another 4+ times with barely anything new. At least design the game to be replayed. Seriously.
Anyway, CCC is interesting. I hate the gameplay. Boss fights are tedious, annoying, and really just very frustrating while normal fights are at least vaguely engaging. Story is interesting. Goes from silly to serious then depressing as it goes through its theme. Nice to see all the stuff that survived this game and are now in Fate Grand Order like Elizabeth showing up repeatedly or Gold P being a name for Gil.
I feel the only reasons to play this is for your favorite servant, or for knowing references. CCC specifically didn’t expand on the universe lore of the series like Extella did and so outside of characters there wasn’t much to draw from. At this point there’s basically nothing left from the Extra duology for FGO to take other than Rani. All the servants have already been grabbed, and the rest of the Masters aren’t well remembered enough to resurrect.
Save for Fate/Extra CCC
Contains 6 saves. One with all cgs in front of the gallery room. Another at NG+ start with a full gallery. Then a save to each servants ending fights, with being able to choose servant ending or Sakura ending.
Gameplay: 4/10 Eroticness: 6/10 Story: 7/10
Completion:
Do a full run with each servant, get all their outfits(pretty easy) and Secret Gardens(guide helps). Do a fifth run to get Sakura ending.
